A Guide to Home Lighting

Home lighting is a key feature for any property. It can change the appearance and atmosphere of your space radically.

It’s important to pick the right type of lighting for your home, because it makes a big difference. Every room has a unique aesthetic that needs to be considered.

What are the Different Types of Lighting?

There are three different types of lighting that should be considered. Each type of lighting has a different impact on the environment around it.

General lighting is the most common type of lighting. It provides illumination in a room.

Task lighting is used to eliminate certain areas of the home in addition to general lighting -  lighting a specific area.

Finally, accent lighting is the most creative form of lighting, and is used to create a specific mood or highlight a particular feature in the home.

First Impressions Count

First impressions count when it comes to lighting. It’s important to try and use lighting. You want to create a space that is inviting impractical all at once.

Staircases

Staircase lighting needs to be safe and functional. You can use the stairwell to create height and a certain mystery as you ascend. Ceiling lights are good here too because they add safety to the lighting.

Landing Lights

The lights on your landing should be both visually pleasing and functional. Safety should be a primary consideration from the outset. This means that you need bright ceiling lights that are designed to properly light up the area, and not to focus much on task or accent lighting. General lights are your best friends here.

The Living Room

Every living room is a unique space, which means that there are often multiple Endon lighting elements at work in the same place. There is general lighting, but there’s also task lighting and accent lighting to consider. Finding the right balance of the three is often very tricky.

It’s often a good idea to play around with things like dimmable lights as well, because these help to create atmosphere as well as being functional.

Dining Room Lights

Despite the fact that the typical dining room is an important place to eat and socialise, it's important that you try and pick the right lights. You want to be able to create a social space, but at the same time, a functional one, so people aren’t straining to see.

if you’re going to use something like a chandelier, it’s worth hanging it quite high up, so it doesn’t inconvenience anybody.

The Bedroom

There should be no harsh light in the bedroom, because it is a relaxing and comforting space. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t introduce things like a chandelier to add a modern touch.

No two bedrooms are created differently, so it’s important to explore many different features. The size of your ceiling will influence whether or not you can have things like a chandelier with crystals.

Children’s Bedrooms

Safety and comfort are two things which need to inform a child’s bedroom. Pick an Impex lighting scheme which works for them at that age and focuses on giving them practical light to see with.

The Kitchen

Kitchen lights require multiple types of lights in order to be effective. You could have something like a chandelier, but at the same time, you also need task lighting in the right places and a good general light.

Bathroom Lights

Bathroom lighting is often criminally overlooked, but it can make a big difference when it comes to creating the right space. You want to aim for practical, stylish, and safe. You may also want to think about using accent lighting in the right places.
